Case Study

An Acute Case of Urinary Tract Infection

Elena arrived to me referred by a colleague in the field of the healing arts. She was a young woman, single, in her twenties who was complaining of a urinary tract infection.

Our work together started with embodied inquiry: Elena was lying on the treatment table, noticing her body, and allowing her attention to go to the sensations created by the infection. With guidance mental images emerged pointing towards an early time in her childhood when an adult touched her inappropriately. A mix of emotions emerged, and using body awareness, movement, breath and voice, Elena brought resolution to the emotions, reconciled conflicting thoughts about the events, received insights from within her body, and achieved a sense of inner peace. Along with our sessions Elena received appropriate medical care for the infection. Soon after our work together, she formed a couple relationship and enjoyed a healthy romantic and physical connection with her partner.
